INDUSTRY WATER & ICE RESCUE TRAINING

Working near water—whether still, moving, or frozen—carries serious risks that require specialized training.

At Siren Safety, we provide practical, regulation-ready rescue programs built for real-world worksites where water hazards are part of the job. Our courses go beyond compliance to ensure workers are prepared, protected, and confident in high-risk environments.

Our Water Safety and Rescue Training Courses are designed to meet the needs of workers exposed to drowning hazards in environments such as tailing ponds, lagoons, dams, rivers, lakes, and work boats, and include frozen water considerations where applicable.

Are you an emergency responder looking for NFPA-compliant training?

NON-MOVING WATER

DESIGNED FOR: Workers operating near still or flat water such as ponds, lagoons, tailings, reservoirs, and lakes.

This course prepares workers to safely perform tasks near or over non-moving water and respond effectively in emergencies. It includes:

  • Hazard recognition and prevention strategies

  • Personal flotation device (PFD) and PPE selection

  • Self-rescue and team-based rescue techniques

  • Practical rescue boat operation and deployment

  • Emergency planning and communication procedures

MOVING WATER

DESIGNED FOR: Workers exposed to dynamic water conditions such as rivers, spillways, outfalls, and dams.

This advanced course expands on flatwater skills and incorporates the challenges of fast-moving water. Training includes:

  • Hydrology and moving water dynamics

  • Defensive and offensive swimming techniques

  • Rope systems and in-water rescue scenarios

  • Advanced rescue boat handling in current

  • Search patterns and scene management

SAFETY COMPLIANCE AND LEGAL FOUNDATIONS

Our water courses ensure your workers meet key legislative requirements regarding drowning risks. Employers are mandated to:

  • Provide a rescue boat operated by a competent individual with the necessary training, knowledge, and experience.

  • Train workers in rescue procedures and the use of appropriate rescue equipment.

Our training goes beyond compliance, equipping workers with the confidence and skills they need for real-life situations.

We offer two focused training options, both in alignment with Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act, O. Reg. 213/91: Construction Projects, R.R.O. 1990, Reg. 851: Industrial Establishments, and the Canada Occupational Health and Safety Regulations (SOR/86-304).

ICE SAFETY & RESCUE TRAINING

DESIGNED FOR: Workers who operate on or near frozen bodies of water such as lakes, ponds, reservoirs, or ice-covered rivers, as well as personnel at worksites where there is a risk of falling through or onto ice.

This advanced course builds expertise in ice rescue, focusing on safe practices in icy environments. Training includes:

  • Understanding ice formation, strength, and stability factors

  • Practicing ice thickness testing and site assessment

  • Developing hazard identification skills specific to ice conditions

  • Gaining hands-on experience with self-rescue and co-worker rescue techniques

  • Learning cold stress management, immersion risks, and survival strategies

  • Operating with limited resources and small team configurations in remote conditions

  • Becoming proficient in using ice rescue equipment, including ropes, picks, and flotation devices

  • Reviewing and applying ice safety planning tools, including site-specific safety plans

  • Mastering self-rescue techniques

Frozen environments present serious and often underestimated hazards. Our Ice Safety and Rescue Course is specifically designed to prepare workers to recognize and respond to the dangers associated with working on or around ice-covered surfaces. Whether conducting inspections, operating equipment, or performing maintenance near frozen water, workers must be trained to safely assess ice conditions and execute rescues when needed.

WATER & ICE RESCUE AWARENESS

DESIGNED FOR: Workers who may have water or ice hazards on their work site.

Water and Ice Rescue Awareness is a safety-focused course that introduces workers and employers to the hazards of working in, on, or around water and ice. The course emphasizes hazard recognition, risk prevention, and the importance of avoiding untrained rescue attempts, while reinforcing safe work practices and proper emergency notification procedures.

  • Identify common water and ice hazards in the workplace

  • Recognize conditions that increase drowning and cold-water risk

  • Understand the dangers and limitations of untrained rescue attempts

  • Describe basic prevention measures and emergency notification actions
