SP103 – WILDLAND FIREFIGHTER TRAINING FOR FIRE AGENCIES
TWO DAYS
Developed by Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) for municipal fire departments.
The SP103 course is a two-day program designed to prepare both full-time and volunteer fire personnel to safely and effectively respond to wildland fires. Tailored to the needs of Ontario’s municipal fire services, this training emphasizes safety, coordination, and operational readiness in the wildland-urban interface.
It combines classroom instruction with hands-on field exercises to ensure participants are prepared to operate safely and effectively across jurisdictions during wildland fire incidents.
This course aligns with the expectations of the Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM), the Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs (OAFC), and MNRF, and complements Ontario Regulation 343/22 under the Fire Protection and Prevention Act (FPPA).
Key topics include:
-
Wildfire behavior and situational awareness
-
Safe and effective suppression strategies
-
Coordinated response techniques in interface zones
-
Personal safety and crew protection protocols
